Editing
I've edited everything from news and articles to emails and website copy. I can turn your draft content into polished, professional copy that connects with your audience. Here's some of my editing work.
News story on weight loss drugs
As Executive Editor of The Pharmaceutical Journal, I led a team of reporters and editors to go beyond the obvious headlines.
While most outlets focused on Mounjaro price hikes in August 2025, we wanted the real-world impact on patients and pharmacy teams.
Working with my reporters, we investigated social media, where patients were urging each other to stockpile the drug. We pressed pharmacy organisations and experts on their concerns – including the risk of a black-market trade – and received 30,000 page views in five days.
The MDU's student hub
As Digital Editor at the Medical Defence Union, I commissioned and edited monthly text and video content for medical students – covering advice, dilemmas and features. Some of the most popular pieces:
- When am I officially a doctor? — x views
- Myth busting: what is indemnity? (video) — 828 views
- I sent an inappropriate photo on WhatsApp and now I'm facing investigation — x views
I also edited the MDU's Student Notes, a quarterly digital journal, before establishing a centralised student resource hub.

"I would highly recommend working with Carlotta. She stands out as an editor who genuinely listens to what you want to get across and why. I believe this to be really important but also hard to find – but you'll definitely find it with Carlotta!
"She is responsive and flexible in her approach. She gives constructive feedback without changing your voice, which I really appreciate when working with editors. I'd definitely work with her again!"

Editor of dental journals
I was Managing Editor of two dental journals – Irish Dentistry and Endodontic Practice – and their digital counterparts from 2014-2018.
I worked closely with the editor-in-chief of Endodontic Practice to commission and edit clinical and CPD content. I've also been Features Editor of Aesthetic Dentistry Today, and sub-editor of Dentistry, Implant Dentistry Today, Private Dentistry and Oral Health.
In 2018 I produced the highest earning edition of Irish Dentistry at the time to celebrate its 20th anniversary, interviewing 20 leading figures and creating and editing special infographics and features.
I was invited to judge the Irish Dentistry Awards from 2014-2017 and co-hosted the ceremony in Dublin, Ireland three years in a row.
Manager of The Author
As Senior Editorial Manager at the Society of Authors, I was also Managing Editor of The Author – its print member journal.
I redesigned the 130-year-old journal when I took over in 2019, introducing a new look and full colour, a stronger brand and online presence, and new printers using 100% recycled paper.
I was responsible for curating and editing content, including work by Adam Kay and other high-profile authors, as well as coordinating the editorial calendar, commissioning illustrators and more.
It's sent four times a year to 12,500+ authors, publishers and agents.
Co-founder of Synaesthesia
I co-founded Synaesthesia – an online literary and arts magazine publishing poetry, short stories and creative nonfiction – in 2012.
I co-edited and managed all aspects: commissioning writers and artists, editing submissions, developing the website, social media and more.
We published themed monthly content, as well as a debut print issue (pictured) at the 2017 Birmingham Literature Festival.
At our peak, we managed 3-4 volunteer editors, ran biannual competitions and grew a combined social media following of nearly 10,000. We closed in 2019 to take on creative pursuits elsewhere.

"Carlotta and I worked together for several years creatively directing and managing content for our successful literary magazine, Synaesthesia. An innovative, passionate and talented writer, it would have been impossible to grow the magazine without Carlotta's inherent drive. She is a joy to work with, and has complete integrity when it comes to work ethic."
